Daniel in Hawaii 5-0 remake and on Facebook

According to various reports from February - which I only heard about now - Daniel has landed one of the lead roles in the upcoming remake of police show Hawaii 5-0. Here's the article on TVSquad.com for example.

Grace Park will play "Kona Kalakua, champion surfer and police academy member" and niece of Daniel's character, according to KoreAm.

Congratulations to both!

Also, Daniel now has an official Facebook page!

Happy New Year and Daniel news

Best wishes for a fantastic 2009 to all danieldaekim members! It's been rather quiet here lately, but hopefully we can liven things up a bit again. :)

Some of you may have heard it already: Daniel will be in a production of "The King and I" in London this June, starring as the king of Siam! It will only be on for a few weeks, from Friday, 12 June - Sunday, 28 June, 2009.

More info at the Royal Albert Hall website, where you can also buy tickets. I'll be there for the evening performances on the 12 and 13, in case anyone would like to meet up. :)

Daniel's apology

Daniel posted an apology on his myspace, just like I knew he would:

I am deeply ashamed and embarrassed by my actions of Thursday morning. It saddens me to know that I jeopardized the welfare of the kind people of Hawaii, a community that I love and call my home.
It is my intention to cooperate fully with the police and I am grateful to them for their sensitivity throughout this matter.
To my friends, family, colleagues and fans, thank you for your kind words of support. To those I have disappointed I can only ask that you accept my heartfelt apologies. I am truly, truly sorry.

Daniel at the Pusan International Film Festival

A nice article from Hollywood Reporter about Daniel's trip to the Pusan International Film Festival:

Kim not 'Lost' on return to Korea

BUSAN, South Korea -- For Daniel Dae Kim, the Korean-American actor who plays the stern Jin in the hit series "Lost," visiting the Pusan International Film Festival to take part in the first-ever Asian Pacific Actors Network conference has been, quite literally, a homecoming.

"I used to play on these beaches," Kim said Sunday, sitting at the PIFF Pavilion as the typhoon-stoked surf crashed ashore. Although his family moved away when he was just 14 months old and he was raised in the U.S., he returned regularly to visit relatives. "I have relatives who live right up the hill here in this neighborhood," he said, gesturing. "It's been nice to come back here and spend time with them and see how much the city's changed. I think the festival has had a lot to do with it. It's made it a lot more cosmopolitan."

Making his first visit to PIFF, though, Kim had mild apprehension because it also would be his first visit to Korea since "Lost" raised his international profile. Initially, he explained, some Koreans criticized the character of Jin for how he bosses around his wife, Sun, played by Yunjin Kim. "They said that was not a representation of a typical Korean man."

Kim acknowledged that with so few Asian characters on American TV -- a situation that "Lost" has helped remedy -- there was a burden on his character to represent a larger community. "That said," Kim continued, "that criticism isn't valid anymore. The characters have really become three-dimensional and fully realized, and as an actor that is all you can really hope for. I enjoy playing Jin."

Daniel Named Honolulu’s Hottest Hottie

From Daniel's official site:

In “Honolulu” Magazine’s Annual “Best of” issue, Daniel was named Honolulu’s Hottest Hottie for 2007. The result was determined by a Readers Poll, where people were asked to submit their favorites for both male and female. Kelly Hu was voted the female hottie of the year. We’ll post an image of the mag’s cover, where Daniel is photographed eating another Hawaiian favorite, “shave ice,” in the image gallery soon.

Congratulations and well deserved!!! ;)
